Ramiele sent home on ‘American Idol’

On her “Idol” profile, Ramiele Malubay says her favorite quote is: “If you’re hated, you’re doing something right.”

Well … ummm … not if you’re trying to win ” American Idol.” Which she won’t: Voted off last night, Malubay, 21, from Miramar, Fla., becomes the fourth “AI” top-12 finalist to exit.

A surprise? Only to someone who hasn’t watched this (the seventh) edition. Until last night, she avoided the bottom three despite a string of less-than-memorable performances. In “Idol-land” that kind of survival rate usually indicates a solid fan base (or a solid turn-out from votefortheworst.com, the Web site on a mission to get the weakest “Idol” into the finals.)

And yeah - good as Malubay was, she was the weakest of this particularly strong crop. Tuesday she sang “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” in the Dolly Parton edition. Pleasant, but that was about it.

But all said, she was cute, attractive, talented and telegenic. Last year, that might have been good enough to win. Not this year.

And in something (perhaps) of a record, Kristy Lee Cook landed in the bottom three again - strange, because she gets stronger and stronger. ( Brooke White, also in the bottom three, has been going the opposite direction.)

David Cook? Maybe this season’s front-runner, along with David Archuleta? He was on hand last night; he had to leave for the hospital after Tuesday’s show (heart palpitations.) He looked fine last night - but stressed. (Who wouldn’t be?)
