Fergie defended Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, urging the media to leave them alone so they can help themselves.

“They’re young,” said the 32-year-old Black Eyed Peas singer. “I was young when I went through my stuff. Leave them alone. If they want to get better, they’re going to get better on their own.”

Fergie knows what it is like to go to rehab and have an addiction problem, as she spent time in rehab for an addiction to crystal meth. Spears spent a month in rehab earlier this year and displayed erratic behavior that included shaving her head. Lohan us currently in her third rehab visit and was arrested twice this year on DUI charges.

“If somebody is going to change, they have to want to do it themselves. I think it is really unfair to them when they are trying to get help,” Fergie says.

She adds that the troubled stars need time out of the media’s spotlight to recover.
